SEO - 10 directories and book marking sites you should not miss!

Submitting your site to some of the highly ranked directories is one of the easiest ways to get your site search engine optimized. Paid directory services like Yahoo Directory will definitely give you better search ranking as well as huge inbound traffic. However there are a number of free and popular (for search engines, at least) directories that gives you very good overall visibility as well.

Now you can get paid to review my post !

The following are some of the free directories and social book marking sites where your blog or website must have presence:

1. DMOZ.Org: The Open Directory Project is the first and foremost one that nobody should miss. Though, an application to list here does not always guarantee listing, you should keep trying. 1000s of search engines rely on DMOZ entries and index them on a regular basis

2. Technorati: Experienced bloggers please excuse. For beginners, please note that the technorati ranking and the inbound links that it will create will definitely a boon to your blog. If you want to monetize your blog, many advertisers and review sites go by the technorati rating.

3. LII: Librarians’ Internet Index is a directory that hosts good quality blogs and websites. After the submission, the approval may take some time unless the webmaster or site owner is a high profile government servant, diplomat etc (Others might take a while but it’s worth the wait)

4. Jayde Business Directory: Another popular directory and related services. You might want to sign up with your alternate email ID as sometimes you end up receiving a lot of promotion mails.

5. Golber: An entry in the golber directory will definitely give you some hits

The next two are relatively less known sites but will guarantee you hundreds of back links - probably their URL structure is such that even a single reference to your website is shown 50 or more times somehow.

6. ncomn: ncomn profile and related tags will create hundreds of useful inbound links for you in no time. Sign up process is fast.

7. SpicyPage: Spicy page profile is another thing that you should not miss. There will be quality inbound links as well as traffic in short term

The last three are the most common and well known social book marking sites. I am mentioning them for the sake of completeness.

8. StumbleUpon: Stumble is my personal favorite and third or fourth biggest traffic source.

9. Digg: Digg has not quite worked well for me but seems to be a hit with most others

10. Yahoo! Buzz - The subscription seem to be closed for the beta program for now but will open soon. Yahoo! Buzz definitely will be the single largest social book marking site for the years to come

There is a number of other book marking services such as Furl, Reddit, Del.icio.us etc that I am not touching up on right now. What I have listed above are some of those that personally worked well for me.

Best wishes for your directory listing approvals…

Blogging is a beautiful concept! It is a powerful means of communicating one’s thoughts informally. I have had a homepage on tripod as early as in 1998 and got a domain name registered in my name couple of years later. Though these were considered major achievements then, the web-life had been all about static pages and pictures alone and less collaborative in nature. The so-called Web 2.0 and related concepts such as blogging, social networking and different modes of messaging have certainly made the online life more exciting. [Read on…]

Top Affiliate Programs

Most of the publishers begin monetizing their blogs by signing up with well-known ad networks - usually one or more CPC (Pay-Per-Click) programs in conjunction with CPM (Pay-Per-Impression) networks. As a second option they tend to go for referral programs as well. However, in most cases, the affiliate programs can reward much better earnings than CPC ad networks if chosen carefully and implemented well. [Read on…]

Rebate processor job scam

Of late there has been a surge of mails in my yahoo bulk mail folder and many of them were related to the Rebate Processor Jobs. The first impression from such mails and related websites is that, it is a great work from home option - more like an extended data entry program where the data entry is restricted to processing rebates from home. i.e. Pick the rebate data records one by one, fill out the rebate value and submit to the customer data, make up to $15 for that much work! Sounds ridiculously simple right? [Read on…]

Top blogging lapses

Yesterday I received a wonderful one-liner review for this site. It was from a first time visitor and his feedback read like this:
‘More instructiveness, elaboration and less promotion will do the content no harm!’. Initially I thought it’s just another passing comment but when I gave it sometime and tried to digest what he meant, I decided to take a deeper look into myself and motives behind this blog. [Read on…]

Utilized your free $20 worth traffic yet?

I had an excellent run with my FREE Google AdWords campaign during the first two weeks since the launch of this blog. As I mentioned sometime back, when I opted HostMonster.com as my hosting provider, I had received $50 in AdWords credit. I utilized that credit along with a $5 sign up charge to create the following traffic figures via Google AdWords alone over two weeks. [Read on…]

Komli Ad Network Review

Komli is a premium ad network from India. I thought of writing this review mainly because 35% of my reader community is from India or Indians settled abroad. It is probably useful for others as well because that is the same cause for which Komli stands – they are targeting up to 40% of the international ad traffic that is India bound.

Website reviews - Two birds with one stone

In a constant effort to improve your personal site or blog, you might want to take continuous feedback from others on how they feel about your site. Most of them time your friends and regular readers will provide invaluable positive comments which is always nice and a feel-good factor. But there will be a point of time where you - as an author - as well as your regular readers will be hesitant to changes with your content or style. This is exactly the situation where one needs to find an external reviewer. [Read on…]

Overuse of Web 2.0 affecting productivity?

A familiar scene in many workplaces these days is that the PC equipped employees juggling around two or three communication or social networking applications while working. Most people are seen multitasking and many times those tasks are more personal in nature than business. [Read on…]

Online copy editors and proof readers

Copy editing is not exactly the best job (return wise) you can do online. However, if you have good command over your language - mainly English - but not very skilled in any particular domain you can start making money working from home via this method.

To start working online as a copy editor you don’t need to have a degree in journalism [Read on…]
