Blog Update and Calling for Advertisers

Last few days have been pretty hectic for me mainly because of the coding and testing efforts towards the Contact Commenters WordPress Plugin. It’s only mid-week yet and I am already exhausted. And today, instead of writing yet another long post, I thought of doing some shameless self-promotion which is rather easily and effortlessly achieved at any time of the day and any day of the year.

Looking for Advertisers for DollarShowerEarlier this week DollarShower hit a triple hundred in its ranks. The Alexa and Technorati ranks are now below 100K and the blog also entered the 45n5 top 100 MMO blogs list. And I thought it is the right time to start selling private ads here which will be definitely a major motivation factor to keep going. After all, there is a lot of quality time spend on this blog on top of the eight hours on regular work.

Advertisement Options at D$

The following are the advertisement options available here and the details of the same can be found on the Advertise page.

  • Four 125×125 banners – the most popular blog ad format
  • Two D$ LinkAds – Nothing but my pet name for the text link ad right below the blog header
  • One D$ FeedAd – Text ad link at the footer of every RSS feed post
  • One 728×90 Leaderboard banner on D$ Tools
  • Paid Reviews – Max two per month and mostly one

The ad sales here are powered by OIO Publisher advertisement management platform. By the way OIO Publisher is one of the best money making options not only to sell your ad spaces but also as a referral option. The software costs $47 per licence and gives away $23.50 for each of your referrals.

(Please contact me via the contact form, just in case you bought the OIO Publisher software via my referral link. I will give you an email-in-rebate of $10 which means that you can buy it now for $37)

  1. Ajit,

    1. I would like to see more SEO related articles on your blog.

    2. I don’t feel that there are too many ads on your blog. Since your blog’s focus is MMO, you should actually try all kinds of ad-density and educate us on what really works in bringing more money. So, I don’t think your readers will be worried that there are too many ads on your blog.

    3. Personally, I try to remove all unwanted stuff’s on my blog. For example, I don’t like Archives section on the side bar, that list all the months. Instead, I like to create a single archive page that lists all the articles or months, using one of the archive plug-in and provide a link on the top navigation to this archive page.

Keep us posted on how the “calling for advertisers” worked out for you. I hope you get many advertisers.

  2. Hey Ajit,

First of all congrats that finally you came up of official advertising πŸ™‚

Coming to feedback which you asked.

    1) Strongly Agree with Ramesh that you can remove some sidebar items

    2) As a daily visitor I dont like the adsense spot at the middle of the post.Even it would be better at top right or bottom of the post.

    3) All the prices are reasonable except the RSS one. $30 for 170 subscribers is much high i feel.

Its all my own opinion.. Dont take it too serious πŸ™‚

Best of luck and hope you will get good amount of bucks and advertisers!

This blog Is very informative , I am really pleased to post my comment on this blog . It helped me with ocean of knowledge so I really belive you will do much better in the future . Good job web master

  4. I don’t think there are too many ads on your site – the blog is primarily about making money online. I agree with TechZoomIn, though – I don’t like the ad in the middle of the post. But, then I think that type of ad probably does pretty well.

Busyness and sidebars in a constant problem. We want the information there yet we don’t want things to look too cluttered. I constantly struggle with this.

What if the arrow was removed next to each line in the sidebar items? How would the list then look? It seems like it would look less cluttered without the arrow.

  5. @Ramesh,
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. I would definitely write more about SEO as it’s a major learning process for me as well. Thanks for the archives suggestion… Personally, I am against archives as well – just that I kept it so as to keep the traditional blog looks. Will do something about it soon enough πŸ™‚

As for the ads, I already got a couple of advertisers but since those were related to betting, casinos etc, I did not approve them. I am in no hurry…

@Laxman, so you are against my sidebar as well πŸ™‚ I think if more than one person complains, I have to really push it up in my priority list… As for the AdSense thing, that’s one of the main income streams so I have to think about repositioning it.. In fact, the CTR rates have been getting better with that πŸ˜† Let me see. And for the feed ad, I am not charging 30USD. It’s in fact, $15 and only one ad for the whole month. That’s reasonable, I guess?

@Kim, sorry for the AdSense thingie πŸ™ It will be there for some more time till the private ad sales pick. Thank you for the wonderful suggestion on the sidebar bullet. I tried removing it on my local setup and it doesn’t look that bad. Another thing I tried removing is the box border around the widget… What I realized is that there should be either the box or the bullet and not both of them together. Will make it better soon…

  6. First, congrats on your overall success, Ajith. I’m not far behind you as far as Technorati is concerned, or Compete for that matter, but I still have a ways to go as it regards Alexa.

As to the ads, I think the problem with the Adsense in the middle of the post is that the post really isn’t that long, so it kind of takes up a lot of space. What I’ve done is if I have a post over 3,000 words, and I sometimes do as you know, then I’ll toss in some kind of advertising. However, I have gone back to some old posts and popped an Adsense block in there; by that time, I figure most of my regular readers have had the opportunity to see the post, so Johnny-come-lately’s get the additional advertising.

As for your sidebar, it’s not bothering me at all.

  7. Ajith,

I thought its $30 for RSS ad πŸ™‚

If its $15 no issues. Seems to be you have got detailed Reviews πŸ™‚

Lets share all you learnings, so that we can learn something when our time comes.

TechZoomIn’s last blog post… Say Happy Birthday To Your Mouse!

  8. @Mitch, thanks for your wishes. Yep, I can see that you are steadily progressing (even alexa as well). At the end, we ranks are more to keep advertisers (and some readers who check the feedcount even before reading anything πŸ˜† ) happy right?

I will seriously look into the AdSense issue as I wouldn’t want regular readers to be offended by the same. Let me see what’s the best option.

@Lax, probably you mistook the paid review rate for this one? πŸ˜€

@Kim/Ramesh, I already implemented the Archives page and removed sitemap. Also some changes have been done to the sidebar (as per Kim’s suggestion) to make it less busy… Hope we are doing much better now?

    Cheers all…

  9. Blog for Bloggers :

I can’t give you much feed back as Im new here but you might want to change the theme and get a new logo.
I have a question though, why did you wait so long to sell advertising?

  10. @BlogforBloggers, thanks for your visit and comment. Well, I am planning to invest in a unique theme and logo once I raise enough money to buy theme. Next time, I really want something unique and not free themes.

As for the ad part, it was only a personal decision to wait till Alexa came down below 100K and I was hesitating to buy OIO Publisher till a couple of days ago πŸ™‚

  11. The only “post adsense’ that really aggravates me is when it’s above the post. Not like you have here, but when you actually have to scroll past adsense to get to the post you came for in the first place! πŸ™‚

  12. Blog for Bloggers :

@ Ajith: No prob, I like this place. Investing in a theme + logo is a good idea. Don’t ever put a free theme on a serious blog. πŸ™‚

  13. @Dennis, glad to know that you were not actually worried about the in-between adsense block. Anyhow, I decided to go with the popular opinion and took it out from the last seven days posts.

@BlogForBloggers, I am game for any face lifting once I start making decent income out of this one πŸ˜‰

  14. What are the topics/categories that you like the most on this blog and what topics you would rather avoid?

I surely prefer your SEO related topics, topics on blogging, Reviews, WordPress plugins reviews and some of the OMM. To avoid…. Nothing upto now πŸ˜‰

    ADs density are ok.

Readability and styling – The blog being a bit busy is quite true. Its a bit slow to load at start.

Language and tone – Fit as a fiddle πŸ˜› Its fine. Everyone understand good english i guess.

  15. @Kurt, thank you very much for the detailed feedback. I would definitely concentrate on SEO along with reviews/blogging tips. As for the WP plugins, there are some cool ideas that I need to put into code… lack of time is the main issue. Also after working for 13 years in the software industry, I am a little bit away from coding activities and hence getting lazier πŸ˜†

  16. Congrats on hitting the below 100k mark , its a great milestone to achieve…

  17. @ZK, thanks πŸ™‚ Alexa is 93K now but advertizers seem to be hesitant. Probably I should switch to a more professional theme?

  18. Ajith, Congrats for the your first plugin.

I understand the amount of stress that goes in for making sure the plugin works properly with out any bugs.

I don’t think there are too many ads on your site.

    Best of luck!!

BTW, i started the ground for developing my first plugin. if i hae any doubts will contact you. Hope you will be able to clarify my doubts!

  19. @Nihar,
Thanks buddy for the wishes and feedback as well. In fact, I am not a plugin expert πŸ™‚ I just learned how the basic hooking works but yet to master PHP. But very small plugins like mine doesn’t require a lot of technical know-how on WP plugin internals.
