I am using twitter but not much. I haven’ t seen much traffic via twitter.

Tweetme button on my blog is also not giving me retweets.

I am on the same boat as you ajith. But, just continuing it.

I find twitter different from every other social media I am on, for me twitter is a communication thingy.

I can keep in touch with a ton of my buddies easily with Twitter, if I use IM I would have to ping each one to say Hi, with this, I can jump in between conversations or Retweet some of their tweets to make my presence known. Its like saying, “Hey buddy, am listening too”.

It works for me that way. And after all regarding the twitter privacy, I dont think people tweet really important stuff out there. I think its totally safe if the world finds out that your dog is sick or you have a bad head.

But I agree on one thing, twitter takes away a lot of your time, and the returns (if you don’t count the joy out of tweeting) is not that much.

But the joy is everything for me, lol, so am hooked

Hi Ajith,

I understand your reasons for leaving Twitter. Of course, I’m not leaving Twitter, but I have different reasons.

When I was first on, Twitter drove lots of traffic to my blog. Over time, it hasn’t worked as well, but that’s because the search engines took over, which they weren’t initially doing.

What Twitter does for me is gives me an opportunity to see more information than I ever had before. I’ve also met some people I’d have never had a real opportunity to talk to; not sure if you remember my post on helping Guy Kawasaki edit his book, which occurred because of Twitter.

And it’s a quick way for my friends to contact me, which also works wonders. Just yesterday we had an impromptu local Tweetup to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and have an official one planned on the 3rd. It’s neat meeting people I’ve met on Twitter.

So, those are my reasons for staying. Nothing overly selfish like trying to make money from it, but I do get to advertise some, every blog post still shows, which gives me a link, and I share info as well. Not bad, for the little time I spend there.

@Harsh, thanks for explaining the secret However, I somehow still feel that it’s a spam medium and would like to avoid it. I am keeping a tweetmeme button here for anybody genuinely want to promote my content and also I am manually tweeting my posts. Probably it’s an immature decision from my side but I feel that it’s driven by my perception/values.

Seriously I have no idea why you left twitter.
Let me tell you my story, even I was thinking of leaving the twitter but later in I realize the best way which I do and I suggest you should also do, if you find it worth considering
make feeds to automatic tweet your post and posts from popular blogs like mashable,TC,LH and so on.
I know sounds rubbish, but look at the time line of some power twitter , you will realize they using the same trick and in return they are getting ton of followers and retweets. So now they are a power twitter users.
regarding noise, forget about timeline and take care of only @ and DM send to you…..
I know again many users will disagree with this, or might say its unethical. but again the way twitter has grown , in matter of time, it will be a better traffic source than digg or such sites…

Nimil, to get a quick query answered, it may be a good tool but forums offer you more precise readable and archivable information. But then you are right… pros and cons are with any system and this one just wasn’t for me.

Raju, you are right. It’s a good place to network and get help but many aren’t using it for that purpose. In fact, even I thought that to get quick help or to run a campaign it’s quite effective. I wasn’t intending to use it that way anyhow.

Your point on give and take is right. You have to put in tremendous effort and you get back pretty much the same. I was using it expecting traffic but found that you have to have thousands of followers and keep retweeting 100s per day to get some traffic. That’s the main reason to quit…

Vikas, there are numerous technologies out there and if you are after each and everything you might just end up loosing time on it without yielding any major benefits. Having used and developed a lot in the software industry, I just don’t like its usability and benefits that it offers.

I can’t agree with you on all the reason you mentioned. I won’t say its too good or bad either. It was twitter that helped me to solve some issues I faced. I got faster response than from a forum. Then every system has its own pros and cons. :=D.
Hope you will have a change of mind sooner or later.
