Blog Contests - Are they for you?

Looks like, this is an era of blog contests! I get to see a brand new contest every other day or so while going through my subscribed blogs (Incidentally, the number of blogs in my Google Reader has been growing at such an unmanageable rate that I had to somehow forcibly bring it down to 40-50 blogs).

At the moment, around 15 of the blogs in my RSS reader are having some contest or other and a few of these blogs are dedicated to contests alone! This does not mean that I have been participating in blog contests quite actively. In reality I have not participated in a single contest so far! However, I thought of writing about this topic today as the resources in my reader that I talked about may be of use to some of you! [Read on...]

Technorati Love Game – Follow up

Exactly a month ago, I kicked off an ambitious Technorati Love game with the intention of drastically improving the Technorati rank of this blog as well as every participant blog. D$ started this campaign with a Technorati rank of 358,049 on August 1st and today it stands at 293,681. Well, unfortunately it did not go anywhere near my expectations but at the same time, I would like to thank those bloggers, who faved me during the last month, by providing them a little link love (See below).

It did not take me too long to understand that having a lot of bloggers fav’ing your blog alone will not boost your Technorati ranks. You need to also have a greater number of blogs linking to you that will improve your authority. Basically the two Technorati traits - authority and # of fans - decide your final rank. [Read on...]

Blog Monetization - Is Pay-Per-Read (PPR) the next thing?

I have been reading a couple of posts on other blogs that raised questions whether the bloggers should now start charging their readers for contents that they deliver! As a blogger, the idea came as a shock to me as my concept of blogging in the direction of penalizing the readers, though I still monetize this blog.

Blogging is all about ‘freedom‘ - both for the authors and their readers. This powerful but simple means of publishing content gave unmatched opportunities for millions of people around the world to voice their opinions. The readers on the other hand were able to pick and read whatever they want to at their own convenience. And now the greed seems to be taking priority over moral values as everybody seems to be after money, no matter how it comes! [Read on...]

Know when to stop blogging

Last week, Alan Johnson of The Rating Blog closed down his popular blog! From an outsider’s perspective his was a reasonably successful blog and really had all the essential marketing ingredients in it. The blog’s health index (Google: PR5, Alexa: around 100,000 at its peak, RSS Subscriptions: 12K plus) was not bad either and he had quite some followers, including yours truly.

Since Friday, I was pondering why would one stop blogging if it is passion for him/her or even career by choice? Well, I am not particularly talking about Alan and his blog here, but about the possible reasons that could persuade some one to call it quits, in the general context. I could already think of some valid reasons.

Top five reasons to stop blogging

Technorati Love Game – Give and Take!

Technorati Love - Give and TakeJust like many inexperienced bloggers, I have not been concentrating enough on my blog’s vital statistics all this while. But after being a little bit successful in creating a small readership (Thank you all!), I thought, it is about time I took this blog to the next level. And this month, I am setting a target to myself to significantly improve my Technorati rank that is currently stuck at 358049 with an authority of 20 and 22 fans.

As you all know Technorati rank is the ultimate benchmark for measuring the popularity of a blog and it happens to be the best blog content aggregator and blog search portal. So if you have a blog and you have not got a Technorati account you should consider signing up right now! And then you could participate in my Technorati love game which is a value proposition for your blog as well as mine. [Read on...]
