Summary:

HostGator undoubtedly has to be one of the BEST Shared Hosting services out there to help with your Website or Blog Hosting. I personally use HostGator Shared hosting as well as VPS Hosting and their Customer support and Uptime statistics have been exceptional...

I have had the privilege of using six different web hosting services, over the past 11 years, most of them being shared hosting. And I must tell you that no other hosting experience was as pleasing and effective as HostGator in terms of the features supported, low pricing, excellent customer support and overall up time (i.e. for the price at which their shared hosting packages are available!)

HostGator Hosting Packages

In the web hosting category, HostGator has the following three plans (On top of this they have recently started Windows Hosting services as well)

hostgator hosting plans

Hatchling Plan: This is the very basic plan that starts at $3.96 per month if you sign up for three years. It allows you to host only one domain but comes with unlimited bandwidth, disk space, emails and MySQL databases. This is ideal if you want to host only one blog or website. The rest of the features of the higher hosting plans are available in hatchling as well. Ideal for a WordPress blog! However, you can also have unlimited sub-domains (e.g. blog1.myblogs.com, blog2.myblogs.com etc) if you want to go for this package and want to host multiple sites.

Baby Plan: The baby package allows you to host unlimited domain names or addon domains. Hence all your different websites, email domains, blogs etc can be accommodated under one Hostgator hosting account. The baby packages start at $6.36 per month. This package is ideal for the established blogger or Internet marketer who has multiple websites.

Business Plan: The business plan has all those features that the baby plan offers plus it gives you a dedicated IP and a dedicated toll free number for customer support. In addition, to support your secure business transactions and sales (e.g. Credit card usage) it supports, your own private SSL certificates to be installed on your host. Business Plan is the ideal choice if you have a small business that deals a lot of secured payments etc and also when uptime is critical (guaranteed by World class customer support via your own toll free number). Business Plan starts at $10.36 per month.

Note: You have the chance to get a dedicated IP under Baby package as well at the cost of additional $2 per month. It still works out to be cheaper than the business hosting.

HostGator also offers dedicated servers and VPS hosting that are not in the purview of this post.

HostGator Coupons

By default HostGator provides two types of coupons for first time customers.

(a) 20% OFF coupons on your first order

or

(b) One Month of FREE hosting (in fact at 1 cent per month)

Update: But now, you can avail special 25% discount on any HostGator plan using our Coupon Code: DOLLARSHOWER25

Note: On the web, you can find hundreds of HostGator coupons under various names but essentially they are the 25% OFF or 20% OFF or 1 month free coupons that HostGator anyhow provides by default for everyone. There’s NO 50% OFF coupons as advertised by some websites to mislead people! The legitimate HostGator Coupons that are available from time to time is available at this HostGator Coupon code page

How to claim your HostGator coupons?

(a) When you choose your plan from the Web Hosting Section, you have to also select the term (3 Years, 2 Years, 1 Year or Monthly). Now, in order to get 25% OFF, all that you have to do is to choose any term other than monthly. The higher the term, better the deal because the 25% discount is available only for your first-time signup. After you select the term, just click Order Now to complete your order providing other details such as user name, domain details etc. Make sure that your 25% coupon name (DOLLARSHOWER25 or FLAT25PERCENT) is appearing when you click the ‘Order Now’ button and also the final calculated amount in the next page reflects that.

(b) In order to experiment with HostGator for a month for free, all that you need to do is to select the ‘Monthly’ option from the dropdown in the first page. In the next page you have to put ‘hgc25’ as your coupon code and you will see that all that you need to pay now is just 1 cent.

Important Note: Choosing the ‘one month for free’ option, however, denies you from benefiting out of the 20% or 25% discount that you get on your first order. Hence, a longer term is always recommended. For example, 25% OFF on two year

  1. moserw :

The plans are pretty competitive and cheap too. I’ve heard good things about them but never used them. Unfortunately I cannot seeing I have unlimited hosting and domains with GoDaddy!

    • @Rajiv, HostGator plans are definitely good and the best is the customer support and uptime. Do you think GoDaddy is a bit slow in terms of shared hosting site response?

      • moserw :

Ajith – I’ve personally never had problems with GD’s shared hosting, but then most of my sites/blogs are basically WP to the minimum. No heavy GFX or media in them and for the most part I do use the default WP theme. Considering their uptime is excellent and the costs are low I’ve never had to look around.

If I ever need to move then I guess HostGator will be the one to beat.

  2. If i sign Up from your link…then will i be eligible for any further rebate??? … and can i use any coupon code provide by hostgator i.e what u meant by default Hostgator Coupon right???

  3. I have been with GoDaddy, DreamHost and Hostgator. None of the others matches with HostGator. They are just awesome, understands the customer very well and does things as if we were doing it.

Thanks for the deal via the SEO Contest, else I would have just read the reviews and never would have shifted. Now I guess I will never have to move out ever! HG Rocks!

Good luck with the deals :)

  4. limerz :

Yup they have awesome tech support :) & I’m satisfied customer of HG

  5. I have got very satisfactory support from the customer service of HG. It is more better.

  6. Nihar :

I am also on hostgator. remember i got it from your ref link. but, unfortunately your account didn’t show me :(

    • @Nihar, I know :( In fact, I ended up losing some $200, last time I came up with the offers for OIO Publisher, Thesis theme and HostGator. At the end, some of my referrals weren’t recognized via thesis as well. This time, though, I am careful.

In your case, I thought, you would have clicked my link but used a coupon that you got from elsewhere. Most of the time, HostGator referral tracking is effective. Thesis one sucks!

  7. I am new to web services and started my blog with Hostgator. Till now i am happy with their service

  8. Do be careful when you say “99.9% uptime, you will never ever have your blog or website down“. If I recall 99.9% uptime means your blog will never be down for more than an 1hour or thereabout. I host with Hostgator and sometime ago, my blog went down as well as the Hostgator site itself but recovery was achieved in 45 minutes if I recall clearly. It was the first and only downtime in over 1 year and 2 months of my being with them ;-).

    • @Udegbunam, That’s right… But 99.9% uptime means, your blog can be still down for about 8.75 hrs in total for one year 😀 For me, it was never really down except when Hostgator upgraded their PHP versions to 5.00 once.

  9. Rara :

i will use this hostgator coupon code, thanks.

  10. Gagan :

I’ve been using Hostgator from the past 3 years, and did not face any problem. One of my favorite hosting provider. Thanks for the promo codes.

  11. Wahyu Setyo Budi :

Hi. I am interested to this offer, but I don’t have any verified paypal. Can I do this without a verified PP?

  12. damn. i saw this topic too late any other good offer for registering domains available at this moment ?

  13. T. Hess :

The biggest problem I’ve had with Hostgator is their billing practices. Every time they send an invoice and I pay it, my web site goes down any way and I have to call them.

Hostgator’s stance on this is, “it is your responsibility to contact us and let us know you have paid your invoice so that we can renew your account.”

If I pay your company money, I shouldn’t have to contact you to remind you I just paid the invoice you sent me. And that’s where Hostgator falls very short of being a decent provider.
