Understand your blog posts’ visibility via Google Webmaster Tools (and take corrective measures, if necessary)

Google Webmaster Tools is one of the very first services that every blogger and webmaster should sign up for, as soon as the blog is launched! However, most people do not give enough importance to this tool once the sitemap is submitted and robot.txt verified.

Let me explain here a couple of important pages in the Google Webmaster Tools that provide insights into the popularity and visibility of your content (blog posts, pages, other services etc). Then we will quickly cover a few tips to improve the situation. Please note that I will not be talking too much about Search Engine Optimization or where to find hot keywords etc.

The Twitter experiment: I too have started chirping err tweeting

Follow me on twitterWhen it comes to the modern communication media and devices, usually I am the last one to adopt and/or adapt. For example, I don’t usually throw away my mobile phones until I have used it for at least three years! The case is much the same, when it comes to the usage of various social networking sites and tools as well.

ShowOffRankings - Show off your blog ranks using this cute widget

ShowOffRankings.com I stumbled upon this single service website called ShowOffRankings.com. This site offers a simple widget that displays your blog ranks - ie. The Google PR, Alexa, Compete and Technorati ranks - all of them neatly arranged either vertically, horizondally or as a square while consuming very little of the screen real estate.

This is one of the easiest widgets to use. All that you need to do is to visit their website, enter your blog URL there, select your blog PR, select the ranks that you want to display, select the style and click generate. Now you can paste the generated code snippets into your header area (the style sheet) as well wherever (e.g. Sidebar) you want to display the actual widget.
