Are We Writing HTML or Blog Content?

Ajith |  | 16 Comments

blog content as htmlWordPress may be a great blogging platform; and so may be the case with some other blogging environments as well. Unfortunately blogging still has not come down to the state where content writers can fluently write and publish formatted content. This is due to the fact that writing content or posts in the case of blogs refers to including some HTML (along with the text) tags as well that gets stored in the Content Management System (CMS) such as WordPress.

The basic formatting needs, inclusion of pictures or linking to other sites/documents etc are usually assisted by simple editors provided by the blogging platform. But sometimes, one needs to know a little more than that to produce posts that look great and are search-engine friendly as well. To make things worse, the formatted content may not be compliant across themes and platforms.

Reasons behind the Nose-diving Blog Income

Ajith |  | 14 Comments

blog income down trend 2008If you have been going nuts over the continuing downtrend of your blog income, here are the reasons. Pubmatic, the ad optimization service, has published a report on the Ad rates trend for the past one year and the story doesn’t look all that great (See charts below) for those who depend on their blog money.

The average ad rates have fallen by almost 50% in Q4, 2008 when compared to the same period last year. Websites of all sizes have been on the receiving end while the smaller sites (and blogs) suffered the biggest loss in the eCPM rates over the past one year. Business & Finance sector related ads, quite understandably, have been the worst underperformers.

Search User Access Points

The traditional way of searching directly from the search engine web site is still the most popular method but it has been complemented well by the new channels such as:

SEO Challenge ’09 – Week 1 Update

Ajith |  | 36 Comments

DollarShower SEO Challenge 09 - Week 1 UpdateFirst of all, thanks to the 60 or so bloggers who approached me with their intention to participate in the SEO Challenge ’09. I am glad I could approve more than 50% (32 to be exact) of them after scrutinizing. Believe me, it was a real tedious manual process. Unfortunately, I could not approve the rest due to one of the following reasons:

  • Google Analytics tracking was not available on their blogs as of Dec 01st
  • GA ‘View Only’ access was not shared on time
  • Made-for-AdSense blogs with very little content
  • Blog was not being updated for a couple of months or so
  • Rated content, drug or banned content blogs

Blog Appraisal – Any ideas?

Ajith |  | 19 Comments

Blog Pricing AppraisalA few posts ago I had featured some free online tools to find your blog’s worth. Blog pricing – for that matter even domain name website appraisal – is not something that can be done easily and realistically. But considering the ongoing trends like blog flipping, the time has arrived to come up with innovative mechanisms to appraise blogs and websites.

While going through the SitePoint marketplace (where most blogs/webiste sale happens) I found some interesting bids for some blogs and websites. Also I took a look at the price tags and bids on recently sold blogs and this kind of urged me to find out the worth of some of the popular blogs and the blogs that I know/read. The current blog worth of the 10 popular Make-Money-Online blogs are given below (I used dnScoop to evaluate and DPR Top MMO blogs to get the Top 10):
