SEO Challenge ’09 – Week 4 Update

It’s Monday again which means we are ready with yet another weekly report on the ongoing DollarShower SEO Challenge ’09 blog competition. We have just completed Week #4 and this time around there’s absolutely no change in the top five leading teams except for the massive percentage gains in search traffic DollarShower SEO Challenge 09 - Week 4 Updatethat they continue to receive. And my dream of seeing a 500% search traffic gain has already been met by the topmost blog in the competition!

The following are the five blogs that are leading at the end of Week 4 based on the average number of daily visits the past 42 days (from Dec 22, 2008 to Feb 01, 2009): (511.40%) (439.80%) (305.55%) (227.99%) (131.52%)

Please check out the our live scorecard for more details.

Week 4 Highlights

It is really amazing to see how the search visits can grow by five fold in a matter of just a month. I wish my stock portfolio grew the same way πŸ™‚ When I took a look at their blogs, I figured out that most of them – technology and otherwise – are writing more about the current hot topics and are doing extremly good keyword research. Two out of the top three are also updating their blogs more than twice a day!

I get a feeling that apart from the the top 8 or 10 blogs, the others are not really doing anything focussed to increase their search visits. Or is it that the top five is far too ahead?

SEO Strategies Used

Unfortunately, I did not get any strategies from anybody this week. Ryan of Geek Speak was trying to do more research on the All-in-one SEO plugin last week but as it looks, he has not reaped the benefits yet. This time, I request the top five blogs to talk about their strategies as comments here as we have got a lot to learn from you guys

Good luck for the next week! (I am having some issues with my broadband connectivity and now blogging using a data card. Please expect delays in moderation)

  1. Well, I’ve been waiting all week for this! These are very impressive gains. Good work everyone.

Remember to post your strategies! πŸ˜‰ As Ajith says, we have got a lot to learn from you guys.

Shirley’s last blog post… Is The Top Commentator Plugin Worth It?

  2. No, you’re quite right, the All-in-one SEO plugin isn’t helping too much at the moment πŸ™‚ Still tweaking settings to see if it makes a difference, but I wonder if I’m actually doing more harm than good.

One other thing, though: I’m called Chris, not Ryan πŸ™‚

Chris’s last blog post… Flash Frozen: a digital cure for panic and fear… kinda

  3. Looks like a rather hopeless case to me. There is no way I can manage a 150% increase in the 2 weeks πŸ™

binaryday’s last blog post… Blog posts that got me the maximum traffic

  4. I did nothing more than some Quick SEO and keyword research. Now I realize the power it has on the search traffic, no wonder A-listers advise to do them. 500% increase is a kinda dream come true..!

It is said that if you take 1 hour to write a post, you will need one hour to post it online.. Thats true to a real extend…

Arun Basil Lal’s last blog post… Optimizing Permalinks for Better SEO

  5. Congratulations to Top 5.

I have moved from 11th to 10th place. The problem with my blog is. I have a huge search engine traffic. so, even though there is a significant increase. it is not reflecting because the numbers are big.

Nihar’s last blog post… Top Entrecard droppers in January 2009

  6. BTW, my blog was down for the first 2 weeks and hence very less traffic. Will you be doing some adjustment for that?

binaryday’s last blog post… Advertise on binaryday for free

  7. Whoa 500% increase!! Congrats to everyone! Personally, I didnt do anything with regards to keyword research. All I did was catch hold of some hot topics and make a post. With my current (offline) work, it has become very difficult to write even 1 post a day. If I am right, I have written the least number of posts in jan and that is hurting the % increase. Somehow I need to find a way (may be scheduling the posts) and write more than 2 posts a day at-least!

everyone here would love to know more about keyword research you were referring to. Care to share the info?

Raju’s last blog post… All New Google Earth 5.0 with Mars Rover & Ocean Floor Explorer

  8. Those who have already high search engine like me cannot do well in this contest πŸ™

My SEO traffic for January 2009 was 86% of total traffic.

Nihar’s last blog post… January 2009 Blog Traffic & Income statistics

  9. Well congrats everyone. I am waiting to read the EXACT STEP BY STEP details of your strategies πŸ™‚ Do share.

Kurt Avish’s last blog post… Gael Cyclone In Mauritius – The Details

  10. @Shirley, yep they need to reveal secrets. Folks, c’mon… We are waiting to hear your tactics – mainly to drive traffic to our blogs beyond the competition as well πŸ™‚

@Chris, oopz sorry buddy, Ryan is another participant here πŸ™‚

@Binary…, hey c’mon man, anything is possible in the next fifteen days! Look at the way the top three are growing.

And to your other question, what do you mean by adjustment? For the final % increase check, we will be taking data for 6 weeks starting from Jan 5th (till Feb 15th). If you had less traffic earlier, that should be actually benefiting you.

@Arun, don’t be modest man… It’s more than some quick SEO πŸ™‚ Please talk more about it…

@Nihar, the beauty of search traffic is that there’s no upper limit to it. So what if you have 86% search traffic already, it can still grow BIG time!

@Kurt, thanks for your continuous support…

    Cheers all!

  11. Ajith,

You should consider revealing your SEO secrets as well πŸ™‚

binaryday’s last blog post… 35 super useful wordpress plugins that you may ever need

  12. They probably don’t want to share anything yet till the competition is over. πŸ˜‰

frenchy’s last blog post… Some Cool Ways For Kids Or Teens To Make Money Online

  13. @Ajith, I agree with you. But, what my point is. In this competition, the person who already has major chunk of the total traffic from search engine. they it is very difficult to top.

I think you know my Search engine traffic is very high. But still i am at 10.

Nihar’s last blog post… January 2009 Blog Traffic & Income statistics

  14. @Binary, my methods (no secrets) of optimizing were already revealed in some of my old posts (10 min SEO). In fact, I do not do too much of SEO but do it one a few good posts… As such my search traffic is only about 40 to 50pc though I would like to increase it this year πŸ™‚ In fact, I want to learn from Arun, Samrat, Simon etc…

@Frenchy, haha you are absolutely right πŸ™‚ The competition in the top five spots is so high that they don’t want their disclosed secrets to help other close competitors

@Nihar, hey be glad that your blog’s search traffic is already so high πŸ™‚

  15. Lots of people commenting that Top 5 are not sharing their strategies. Few of us have disclosed (please read the comments in older posts as well) – some have disclosed in detail and others have preferred to vaguely touch upon the tactics.

Raju’s last blog post… [Firefox Friday] Across the Foxosphere – 3

  16. 500% by week 4 is absolutely phenomenal! Impressive stuff indeed! I am reading these posts from here on in to follow the trends and see the growth experienced by the various participants and must say it is looking good indeed! The All in One SEO plugin is something I’m really interested in, and I’m looking forward to more information on its functioning in the posts that follow.
