Just 2 much! Two tiny widgets to improve the reach and accessibility of your content

ConveyThisNot all popular blogs are originating from English speaking countries - nor are the readers themselves. So if you have a great English blog (other languages as well!) and you want to increase the reach of the same, what would you do? Simple! Provide translation tools and helper tools to read out the content. I am talking about two such services in this short post.

ConveyThis - Language translation widget

This is an amazing little widget that provides a button (and a language dropdown box) to translate the content of the current page to your language of choice. This internally uses translators like Google Language Tools and Yahoo! Babel Fish to carry out the translation on the fly and display your blog or website in the target language.

Tips to overcome writer’s block

Writer’s BlockHave you ever faced a situation where you don’t have enough topics to write on your blog? Or even worse - you have a topic in mind, but don’t have enough stock information to get started and expand it into a decent post. And finally the worst scenario - there’s no motivation or drive (internal or external) to continue posting!

If the above description explains your situation, you are suffering from what is known as the ‘writer’s block’. I had written a short post sometime back on using the skribit widget to get rid of writer’s block. In this post I would like to share some methods that I personally use to keep writing continuously - well, almost.

Things those are redundant or unused in a blog!

We get to see blogs of all kinds these days. The look ‘n’ feel or the content organization of a blog depends a great deal on the underlying platform (Wordpress, Blogger, MovableTypes etc), the theme or template applied, and the extensions (widgets, plugins, gadgets etc) added to the platform and the theme.

Many of us blindly use the ’standard set of features’ that is used by most others or offered by the platform. But are these neatly-laid out and space-occupying things make sense to most readers? Do you have any features on your blog that is never ever used by anybody? It’s time to do a self-analysis.

Get your old post a  Sarah Palin MakeoverRecently I was going through some of the older posts on this blog, just to get a feel of how things were in the past. Though DollarShower is not a very old blog, I could still feel a lot of difference in my approach - now and then. This was visible in the way of writing, formatting or even involvement with the readers and it prompted me to edit a few posts, if not for major changes to the content itself.

Reasons for editing an old post

Though some people never edit their old content (and some don’t even display timestamps, for that matter), I found some valid reasons to do so. According to me, the following are some of the motivations behind modifying an old post:
